When Reggie Fils-Aime joined the GameStop Board a little over two years ago, it looked like a positive combination for the company. The former president of Nintendo of America helped that company for a difficult period and it seemed possible for him to do the same with Gamestop. Unfortunately, it was not meant to be like this, and Fils-Aime left the GameStop directory after only one year. In a new interview in SXSW, Fils-Aime finally spoke about Gamestop’s exit, revealing that President Ryan Cohen did not seem to want him about how to change things.

“The subject was that as I was beginning to develop the strategy, I asked to be part of the team to develop the strategy. I knew the business. He knew him as a consumer, he knew him as a seller; Opinions on how the business needed to be pivoted. But I was rejected, “said Fils-Aime to Bloomberg. “The perspective was, ‘Reggie, we want the team to be small… so I’m going to be myself [Cohen] and some of the people I brought on board’».

Fils-Aime continued saying that the leadership team has not revealed its strategy to advance GameStop, leaving the rest of the company in the dark on how things will improve. These factors convinced Fils-Aime that it was time to start from Gamestop.

“I took that as code for, ‘Thank you, but we really do not want any other idea.’ For me, that was not acceptable, “said Fils-Aime.

It seems hard to believe that Gamestop has someone with the level of Fils-Aime experience in the video game industry and marketing, and do not rest on it for help. Before working in Nintendo, Fils-Aime had successful periods in several important companies, including Guinness, VH1 and Pizza Hut. While Cohen and the rest of the GameStop leadership may not have wanted the opinion of him, it seems likely that Fils-Aime does not have much difficulty finding success elsewhere!
